Check out the flyer below. I am so excited to finally getting out there and showing off all the many (many, many) beautiful pieces that I've made. If you are in the area, come out and see me...<br />

<br />
Another month has gone by! This month's <a href="https://www.artbeadscenestudio.com/june-monthly-challenge-9/">Art Bead Scene Studio Challenge</a> is a bright painting by Jean Metzinger. <br />
<img alt="Image result for Les Ibis by metzinger" class="aligncenter" src="https://uploads8.wikiart.org/images/jean-metzinger/les-ibis-1907.jpg!Large.jpg" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent; border-image: none; border: 0px rgb(52, 52, 52); color: #343434; display: block; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; margin: 5px 0px; max-width: 900px; orphans: 2; padding: 0px; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;" />I love the colors! This says summer to me. And tropical vacations. And enjoying the beauty of nature with lots of sun! <br />
After perusing the art beads, I thought this <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/504143477/hand-painted-mandala-bracelet-bead-on?utm_source=Copy&utm_medium=YourPurchases&utm_campaign=Share&utm_term=so.yp&share_time=1530026292274">art bead</a> by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/SummerWindArt">Ashley Bonney </a>really captured the mood of the painting. Do you see all the attention to detail in the bead? - It's very remarkable!<br />
I paired it with other bright colors to try and capture the feel of summer. <br />

<br />
Wow! 6 months have gone by since last post. I guess I've used more Instagram for my jewelry posting lately. If you want to check any of my stuff out, my Instagram site can be found at mccabe.denise.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I needed some new inspiration an<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">d found some with this month's </span><a href="https://www.artbeadscenestudio.com/may-monthly-challenge-9/" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent; color: #0066cc; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: underline; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">Art Bead Scene Studio May challenge</a><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">. Of course, it's completely different from any art I would pick and out of my normal comfort zone for jewelry making - but that usually makes the best inspiration - the one that stretches my mind the most. </span><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32839" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" src="https://www.artbeadscenestudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/primavera.jpgLarge.jpg" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent; border-bottom-color: rgb(52, 52, 52); border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-image-outset: 0; border-image-repeat: stretch; border-image-slice: 100%; border-image-source: none; border-image-width: 1; border-left-color: rgb(52, 52, 52); border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-color: rgb(52, 52, 52); border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-color: rgb(52, 52, 52); border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 0px; color: #343434; cursor: move; display: block; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; height: 493px; letter-spacing: normal; margin-bottom: 5px; margin-left: 75px; margin-right: 75px; margin-top: 5px; max-width: 900px; orphans: 2; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;" /><br />
The artwork is Botticelli's Primavera. I'm glad the website added the link for the art people's interpretation of it. Who would think that a piece of artwork about spring would be weighted with so much black in the background? I had a hard time getting over that. I usually think of Spring as colors piled on top of each other. <br />
Another issue is that I don't have a lot of black beads except seed beads to work with. How to add the weight of the artwork into a Spring-y jewelry design?<br />
I pulled out a few orangey-red art beads that I thought looked similar to the cloth color that swathes Venus but the beads didn't work with much else.<br />
<br />
Well, this is what I came up with....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iZMzGC6NIbQ/Ww71QLHVnAI/AAAAAAAASK8/W1ik42WV2_ECZSuesKWjrqaWaFtrDUfIgCLcBGAs/s1600/20180530_124845.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="225" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iZMzGC6NIbQ/Ww71QLHVnAI/AAAAAAAASK8/W1ik42WV2_ECZSuesKWjrqaWaFtrDUfIgCLcBGAs/s400/20180530_124845.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The bracelets... <br />
I took the soft blue from the sky and from Zephyr, the god of wind, and used it for one bracelet by wrapping pale blue memory wire around a Vintaj bracelet blank and adding a lampwork focal bead with a dark navy blue swirl and some brass flowers to give it the Spring-y feel. The lampwork focal bead was purchased at an Intergalactic Bead Show several years ago. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X7hUQabjpLQ/Ww71Vuf3PWI/AAAAAAAASLA/AYmj8L4Lrp8YhnS491_H6TLsZH1HAWj2wCLcBGAs/s1600/20180530_125000_001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="225" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X7hUQabjpLQ/Ww71Vuf3PWI/AAAAAAAASLA/AYmj8L4Lrp8YhnS491_H6TLsZH1HAWj2wCLcBGAs/s400/20180530_125000_001.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The second bracelet is braided wax linen with little peach seed beads as accents. I think of them as the dots of flowers in the picture. The clasp is by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ORRTEC">Melinda Orr</a>. There are 2 lampwork glass beads. The small one, again, was purchased from the Intergalactic Bead Show. The larger light amber one with polka dots is by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/Loupiac">Loupiac</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H8OhIsNpkZU/Ww71av7wr5I/AAAAAAAASLE/QN6aLwW6dSYxLXfywQKs8il4iaLG1I9pwCLcBGAs/s1600/20180530_125057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H8OhIsNpkZU/Ww71av7wr5I/AAAAAAAASLE/QN6aLwW6dSYxLXfywQKs8il4iaLG1I9pwCLcBGAs/s640/20180530_125057.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
The necklace is a lariat with a antique brass color suede - very soft and easy to wear. The brass pendant and washer loop were etched by me! I made several etched pieces last year and have been planning to do something with them..... The etched images have leaves that mimic the trees in the picture. There are lampwork beads from 2 different artists separated by the tiniest sand opal Swavorski crystals. The bottom satin metallic lampwork spacer is by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/Beadfairy">Beadfairy</a>. The 3 stripey beads and the larger, clear and yellow/blue/black striated one were purchased at the Intergalactic Bead Show. <br />
**I had purchased several beads from two lampwork glass artists who were exhibiting from the show - <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ThornburgBeadStudio?ref=shop_sugg">Thornburg Studio</a> and from another woman, who for the life of me, I can't remember right now. I came home and mixed the beads up, so not sure who made what anymore. <br />

I had grand ambitions...and then December happened. It comes around every year and all of a sudden its time to go to concerts and bake cookies and get gifts and then its Christmas! <br />
Here are my two ornaments....<br />
<br />
I wanted to learn how to make a beaded star. I've seen many on Pinterest with beautiful, complex designs and there is one with <a href="http://www.dragonslairbeads.com/beaded_stars.html">snowmen</a> on it that I would love to make. So, I made a prototype, just to learn the stitch and how it all fits together and that's as far as I got right now. This pattern is from Diane Fitzgerald's book, called <em><a href="http://www.dianefitzgerald.com/Shpd%20Bdwrk%20Beyond.asp">Shaped Beadwork and Beyond</a></em>. My first beaded start still sits pretty on the tree, even if the design is slightly plain. I actually found another link on Bead and Button and another way to make these stars and may try it as well. Diane Fitzgerald's idea has you making five beaded components and then sewing them together. <a href="http://www.facetjewelry.com/stitching/projects/2015/12/holiday-star-ornament">Bead & Button's idea</a> has you making 10 beaded components and then sewing them together - which may be helpful if creating intricate designs on the faces of the stars. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q-OQW7RaWX8/WjpwDi76G8I/AAAAAAAAOg4/35OeuuoPUN4uLeN4QKb3jBlkGeEYYkhmACKgBGAs/s1600/20171220_083737.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q-OQW7RaWX8/WjpwDi76G8I/AAAAAAAAOg4/35OeuuoPUN4uLeN4QKb3jBlkGeEYYkhmACKgBGAs/s640/20171220_083737.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My second ornament came from the idea given at <a href="https://www.artbeadscenestudio.com/on-the-6th-day-of-christmas-last-minute-art-bead-wreaths-with-silk-ribbon-bows/">Art Bead Scene blog</a>. Why not make an ornament with all my favorite hoarded art beads? I really like these beads and had to have them but either found them too big for the more delicate or flat jewelry I like to make or too whimsical for the jewelry I make. But I love them hanging on the tree!<br />
The art beads included are: a spunky cowboy pendant by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/jadescott">Jade Scott</a> (who no longer sells these), beautiful handmade glass beads from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/Loupiac">Loupiac</a>, and an enameled copper bead with the saying "Less is more" from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/BlueAntiquities">Blue Antiquities</a>. Less is more is a phrase I keep trying to live by but find many challenges with. This wreath isn't in traditional Christmas colors because I'm planning on hanging it by my kitchen window to enjoy all year after the tree is down. <br />
**The in between beads are pyrite and the wire was found on the ground after a nearby utility pole was getting changed out. I collected a whole bunch of one foot wire segments - not sure what kind of metal it is, maybe steel? It's silver colored and slightly hard. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lL14TD7N7_Y/WjpwFxrTHBI/AAAAAAAAOg8/Byk4Fftrw_Qw7_6lFlOAaRN5JxTzsXxhgCKgBGAs/s1600/20171220_083726.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lL14TD7N7_Y/WjpwFxrTHBI/AAAAAAAAOg8/Byk4Fftrw_Qw7_6lFlOAaRN5JxTzsXxhgCKgBGAs/s640/20171220_083726.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Can't wait to see what everyone else made! Merry Christmas!</div>

If you have, you may recognize the pattern on this bead. I pinned it over a year ago and was very intrigued both with the pattern and how it was done. So my curiosity finally won out and I tried it. The Pinterest one looks like it uses Czech seed beads. I used delicas, so its a little more angular.<br />

</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
First, Thank you Lori Anderson for hosting another Bead Soup Blog
Party. This is my third and I've enjoyed meeting other Beaders across
the US through this platform. <img alt="BSBP is back!" height="400" id="Image1_img" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gDQ_xXNp8PI/WIkuPmYLdxI/AAAAAAAALMo/e5xE8fdH2X4xFoKzo_ze29TncKQG8LAIgCK4B/s1600/bsbp%2Bcollage%2Bbadge.jpg" width="200" /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Second, Thank you Annita Wilson, my BSBP partner. She sent me some awesome beads. And it was fun working with them. So, here were the beads that were sent to me....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GGLS9EZc4KY/WNW9V9-pj9I/AAAAAAAAH7E/dSOUDneUJXYSAybw8baB5sfsvBtbmUCFgCLcB/s1600/P1180330.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GGLS9EZc4KY/WNW9V9-pj9I/AAAAAAAAH7E/dSOUDneUJXYSAybw8baB5sfsvBtbmUCFgCLcB/s320/P1180330.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I started making jewelry with many of the components but only happily finished a few ....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0dScBQClg0/WNW94EqHkxI/AAAAAAAAH7M/GdC-ggm_Rm4-HvLoYxORVFX5GIc_ZZ1DwCKgB/s1600/20170324_102552_001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0dScBQClg0/WNW94EqHkxI/AAAAAAAAH7M/GdC-ggm_Rm4-HvLoYxORVFX5GIc_ZZ1DwCKgB/s320/20170324_102552_001.jpg" width="118" /></a><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HLSuOjfVz8A/WNW9jNeZnPI/AAAAAAAAH7I/OoMC3ez2XsE-lTjC7zvv2DiLyq3kQgr0wCKgB/s1600/20170324_102359.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HLSuOjfVz8A/WNW9jNeZnPI/AAAAAAAAH7I/OoMC3ez2XsE-lTjC7zvv2DiLyq3kQgr0wCKgB/s320/20170324_102359.jpg" width="219" /></a></div>
The beautiful yellow green and black cut stone was made into a tassel pendant for this long necklace. The chain is made up of white shell beads and gold Czech glass beads. A fun, long bohemian necklace. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lI30WykFLXc/WNW-NuTOcSI/AAAAAAAAH7Q/eztowvVVT1gtCmtqobWm-dUIZo6T0I_ygCKgB/s1600/20170324_102321.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lI30WykFLXc/WNW-NuTOcSI/AAAAAAAAH7Q/eztowvVVT1gtCmtqobWm-dUIZo6T0I_ygCKgB/s320/20170324_102321.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next, I split up the pair of purple, magenta and turquoise blue puffy rectangles and made a bracelet with many handmade components. The faceted beads are polymer clay. Check out how they are made here: <a href="http://cabewoman.blogspot.com/2017/02/handmade-polymer-clay-beads.html">http://cabewoman.blogspot.com/2017/02/handmade-polymer-clay-beads.html</a>. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OW5NMxV2c-4/WNW-RIIGqcI/AAAAAAAAH7U/LBJ87VIYMuofL6TjtjDGJ-bFtPNyobEJQCKgB/s1600/20170324_102217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OW5NMxV2c-4/WNW-RIIGqcI/AAAAAAAAH7U/LBJ87VIYMuofL6TjtjDGJ-bFtPNyobEJQCKgB/s320/20170324_102217.jpg" width="254" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love how this bracelet turned out. The colors go together so well!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ULMkFnWplPA/WNXCElT5rAI/AAAAAAAAH7o/qZALX19QHG0FfgpIk7U2FsMjfiF4IdebgCKgB/s1600/20170324_102516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ULMkFnWplPA/WNXCElT5rAI/AAAAAAAAH7o/qZALX19QHG0FfgpIk7U2FsMjfiF4IdebgCKgB/s320/20170324_102516.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Lastly, these beaded bead earrings were made with the strand of AB purplish beads. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MUjMy3E0zxU/WNXDYdTm-BI/AAAAAAAAH70/h_SGL2PhkWo2HSk97KNMQdm13kH9_4oPQCKgB/s1600/20170324_102147.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MUjMy3E0zxU/WNXDYdTm-BI/AAAAAAAAH70/h_SGL2PhkWo2HSk97KNMQdm13kH9_4oPQCKgB/s320/20170324_102147.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Thank you again to Annita. I loved working with the beads. <br />
Here's the beads I sent her: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love this FRAW. The base of the bracelet sewed up very quickly. Here's another beaded item from the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Beadweaving-Beyond-Basics-Crystals-Two-hole/dp/1440242682/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1489072367&sr=1-1&keywords=kassie+shaw" target="_blank">Beadweaving Beyond the Basics book by Kassie Shaw</a>. I love the bright colors and the fact that it is reversible. Everything is so bright and cheery in this book - I really could stitch up the whole book. This one just needs a neckchain and its all good to go. <br />
<br />
This is the first time I've worked with a lunasoft cabochon. The colors are so vivid. But I do have a question - because they have a soft top to them - do they get scratched and do they pick up dirt easily? I had this lying on the table and when I picked it up, noticed that a few crumbs were 'stuck' to it. They easily brushed off, I just wonder if hair 'sticks' to it.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These beaded beads are called Wheelies and are from the book <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Beadweaving-Beyond-Basics-Crystals-Two-hole/dp/1440242682/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1489072367&sr=1-1&keywords=kassie+shaw" target="_blank">Beadweaving Beyond the Basics by Kassie Shaw</a>. Kassie introduces the concept of FRAW (faux right angle weave), which really makes right angle weave go so much faster. I love the idea and have now done a few projects from the book. <br />
<br />

<br />
The book shows these little cuties as earrings, which are very darling. The only con I have with these earrings is that I can really see the thread that I am not crazy about. I don't know if my size 8's were too small to fill in the spaces. It's definitely not a tension thing - I couldn't pull it any tighter. Nevertheless, they are still very cute!<br />

I've been on a kick lately, trying out different beaded beads. <br />
<br />These are from the book <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Art-Beaded-Beads-Exploring-Technique/dp/160059588X" target="_blank">The Art of Beaded Beads by Jean Campbell</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7LFNyIzlC1w/WMFuauDnIPI/AAAAAAAADoQ/Ytso-w7wrTcC_qNChBJWRGU0dvy4Y3hNQCLcB/s1600/P1180386.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7LFNyIzlC1w/WMFuauDnIPI/AAAAAAAADoQ/Ytso-w7wrTcC_qNChBJWRGU0dvy4Y3hNQCLcB/s320/P1180386.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I think they were called pumpkin beads - which is definitely what they look like. I like the pink one better - the contrast on the top and bottom definitely makes the bead look more dynamic, although I don't know how important it would be in the long run. I imagine that these beads would look great as a focal on a necklace or bracelet (they are kind of big - about 3/4 inch tall and 1 inch wide) and they will probably have some other larger beads squished on either side of them so the contrast edging would not be as noticeable. <br />

Happily, I was published in it again. Two bracelets:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EB6azRJlhqQ/WKswZTZcxkI/AAAAAAAADm0/fEJTHGBfmronmx8RqIsXhlWcf8CwdsQXgCLcB/s1600/Bracelet%2Bbee.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EB6azRJlhqQ/WKswZTZcxkI/AAAAAAAADm0/fEJTHGBfmronmx8RqIsXhlWcf8CwdsQXgCLcB/s320/Bracelet%2Bbee.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The first was actually a birthday gift for a friend that she was nice enough to give back temporarily so it could be shipped off to the magazine for photos, but has now since been returned. If you can't tell my friend has a thing for bees. The centerpiece is an Italian bee coin that I buffed and waxed and added the chain and embellishments. Even the clasp has a bee on it! The clasp is from <a href="http://www.greengirlstudios.com/" target="_blank">Green Girl Studios.</a> The bee charms are Tierracast. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9EnY0xmDsT4/WKswc6CJzLI/AAAAAAAADm4/29IGH6mkeaQJ5C8tIl5WnJoP8D1Fc0p-QCLcB/s1600/Bracelet%2BPyrite.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="230" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9EnY0xmDsT4/WKswc6CJzLI/AAAAAAAADm4/29IGH6mkeaQJ5C8tIl5WnJoP8D1Fc0p-QCLcB/s320/Bracelet%2BPyrite.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The second was inspired from the gold rush segment in the magazine and the handmade focal bead (from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/TreeWingsStudio" target="_blank">TreeWingStudio</a>). Everything just fits so perfectly together in this bracelet. One of my favorites. <br />
All the handmade beads: purple lampwork flower: <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ThornburgBeadStudio" target="_blank">Thornburg Bead Studio</a>, green/brown ceramic bead: <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/gaea?ref=l2-shopheader-name" target="_blank">gaea</a>, Blue/white ceramic bead: <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/blueberribeads" target="_blank">blueberri beads</a>. The rest of the beads are pyrite and gold-plated spacers. <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/503852358/pyrite-and-dots-bracelet-beaded-bracelet?ref=shop_home_active_1" target="_blank">This one is now listed on etsy!</a>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12563448327864184210noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5867321190462787399.post-15221483282274548902017-02-27T13:06:00.000-05:002017-02-27T13:06:06.845-05:00Other HobbiesLike most other jewelry makers, I have other crafty hobbies (several other crafty hobbies). Over the holidays, knitting was my thing.<br />
<br />
My niece is very much into Harry Potter, so I made her a Harry Pottery scarf. Unfortunately, it took me until a month after Christmas to finish it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m9BJY00CAvE/WKRdr01PTMI/AAAAAAAADlU/5WcBQBLbydsbzTyWVkmVocUnTac6GqwMACLcB/s1600/P1180317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m9BJY00CAvE/WKRdr01PTMI/AAAAAAAADlU/5WcBQBLbydsbzTyWVkmVocUnTac6GqwMACLcB/s320/P1180317.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The lighting is not very good because I was trying to package it up quickly after finishing it or I was afraid it would never go out in the mail. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With this scarf, I liked that there was no front and back. It is a great thick scarf for the cold winter. But if you are making it for a kid, I would suggest casting on less stitches. Here's the pattern: <a href="http://www.sumoftheirstories.com/2013/10/harry-potter-scarf-pattern.html">http://www.sumoftheirstories.com/2013/10/harry-potter-scarf-pattern.html</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the fall, I also filled the request of my youngest kid, for a minecraft hat: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p5AhJlaadHk/WKswGndzc-I/AAAAAAAADms/tH3AeIXN6hI-I6idi2v7xyJAVEyMUinZACLcB/s1600/P1180343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p5AhJlaadHk/WKswGndzc-I/AAAAAAAADms/tH3AeIXN6hI-I6idi2v7xyJAVEyMUinZACLcB/s320/P1180343.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pattern is a purchased download in Ravelry: <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/minecraft-inspired-steve-hat">http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/minecraft-inspired-steve-hat</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And how many times has it been worn? Not very often, because it soon got replaced with a Target-purchased Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hat. And that is why I have a love/hate relationship with knitting anything for my kids. I love that they want something their mom made, but hate that they don't have any appreciation for the time it takes. I guess that sums up most of motherhood. 😖😜</div>

<br />
With a little extra time last week, I finally delved into the fun world of polymer clay bead-making. I've had Erin Prais-Hintz's <i><a href="http://www.interweave.com/store/fabulous-facets-grouped" target="_blank">Fabulous Facets</a></i> tutorial for well over a year and was able to take the time to use it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8GvePAcjpOo/WKsobOw3WKI/AAAAAAAADmA/1bHS8Lzo2JcmX5b4ocf_wvWmLFatVqtdQCLcB/s1600/P1180333.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8GvePAcjpOo/WKsobOw3WKI/AAAAAAAADmA/1bHS8Lzo2JcmX5b4ocf_wvWmLFatVqtdQCLcB/s320/P1180333.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
First, it's a great tutorial. She's very thorough and for someone who has never worked with polymer clay before, it was all useful knowledge. And even more important than working with the polymer clay, I thought the painting tutorials were very helpful. I've had the alcohol inks and patinas for awhile but never used them with such great results. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ehO0NghrsGI/WKsqA9ABKOI/AAAAAAAADmM/UzbnYlSne5EFxYfHmkYXOFzbwaHJSRCkwCLcB/s1600/P1180337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ehO0NghrsGI/WKsqA9ABKOI/AAAAAAAADmM/UzbnYlSne5EFxYfHmkYXOFzbwaHJSRCkwCLcB/s320/P1180337.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The end results were very 'fabulous'. The beads have a lot of depth. And some look like rough cut stones. I used different size metal space to make different sized beads, since I'm more partial to smaller beads. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0yfWSKuvu_U/WKsqFtIE-bI/AAAAAAAADmQ/a9CKBqTG_gI_ShPUEbjHiVrWHCtZiFlowCLcB/s1600/P1180338.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0yfWSKuvu_U/WKsqFtIE-bI/AAAAAAAADmQ/a9CKBqTG_gI_ShPUEbjHiVrWHCtZiFlowCLcB/s320/P1180338.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Some learnings: - first, my hands must have been pretty warm when working with the clay and kept softening the faceted cuts. And they are so hard to see until after you bake and paint them. And some of the cuts were a bit wonky, so I had to sand some of the edges down after they baked (which I also learned is better to do before painting them or it creates a lot of rework. =} =}<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's her blog: <a href="http://awjewelryandbeadwork.blogspot.com/">http://awjewelryandbeadwork.blogspot.com/</a> <br />
<br />
I received all of her awesome beads last week. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
Look at that awesome slab of green/yellow/black stone and beautiful purple and blue stones - love the colors. </div>
<div>
The heart was the main hoarded pendant. It is a lovely mossy sea green ceramic pendant. </div>
<div>
And the detailed butterfly pendant - so many choices. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have so many ideas percolating - just hope I can pull them off.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thank you for these beads!!! Come back on March 25th for the reveal.</div>

And this time, there is a link to purchase these on my Etsy store at the end of the post. <br />
<em>Jewelry Stringing</em> has themes and both the bracelets were made with the Southwest Inspiration in mind. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pce0pZ6vkjo/V9lHGF2PEPI/AAAAAAAADiA/UC8pqz26FDYkzWZFxt0v3lb8_jZu4s-swCLcB/s1600/P1180182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pce0pZ6vkjo/V9lHGF2PEPI/AAAAAAAADiA/UC8pqz26FDYkzWZFxt0v3lb8_jZu4s-swCLcB/s320/P1180182.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The first is a bracelet with thick turquoise leather cording and lots of charms. The charms are ceramic and hand-painted metal, along with some vintage rhinestones. I really like this leather, but find it is very difficult to cut to size. I found that nursing (or medical) bandage scissors work really well for cutting thick leather. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7z0Ukxzkr0A/V9lH-mkr-HI/AAAAAAAADiI/94SWs5K6pXc4249MNxNnP6IEpxCunTrKQCLcB/s1600/P1180183.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7z0Ukxzkr0A/V9lH-mkr-HI/AAAAAAAADiI/94SWs5K6pXc4249MNxNnP6IEpxCunTrKQCLcB/s320/P1180183.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The second is a bracelet with lots of southwest inspired beads. I love these colors and was just looking for a way to make them all go together. The 3 strands of beads are these cool Picasso Czech glass beads, silver rondels and turquoise-colored howlite. The strand his complete with a suede button loop and silver and turquoise leather tassel. I imagine wearing this with jeans on a cool fall day. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_dfR5GUbjvg/V9lI7vmGIcI/AAAAAAAADiU/W2L0_ihyxukRVBScbjJecIJOOuQ7Yk92gCLcB/s1600/P1180185.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_dfR5GUbjvg/V9lI7vmGIcI/AAAAAAAADiU/W2L0_ihyxukRVBScbjJecIJOOuQ7Yk92gCLcB/s320/P1180185.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I think these earrings are some of my favorite! I love the mixed metals look and the way they swing when I'm holding them up. These are made with vintage brass tubes, jump rings and some special Japanese seed beads that are actually two colors - gold/bronze and navy blue. There are not too much navy blue, so really they just read more gold/bronze.<br />
<br />
And these have been posted on Etsy. I'm also working on some of my older jewelry Stringing published jewelry. <br />
Check it out here: <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/465286248/turquoise-leather-wrap-bracelet?ref=listing-shop-header-1" target="_blank">Bracelet #1</a><br />
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/478772859/southwest-inspired-bracelet-turquoise?ref=shop_home_active_3" target="_blank">Bracelet #2</a><br />
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/478776457/bronze-and-silver-dangle-earrings?ref=listing-shop-header-0" target="_blank">Earrings</a><br />
<br />
<br />
On a side note, does it bother anyone else that they don't list who contributed or designed the jewelry for bracelets and earrings? This is the first time that <em>Stringing </em>magazine has not listed the contributors for these pages and they gave no prior information that it would come out like this. <br />
Its making me think whether I would like to have my jewelry published in here. In the past, I was one of those people who be so fascinated with a good design that I would look up the other designers to see what other awesome jewelry they had made. Now, its not possible. <br />

This time they accepted a bracelet and earrings for the magazine.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VaCDHthTMb4/V21SUHxP9VI/AAAAAAAADgA/hLNIoVu32awmlYhW9MzYLx5AlTCJh6G0gCKgB/s1600/P1170992.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VaCDHthTMb4/V21SUHxP9VI/AAAAAAAADgA/hLNIoVu32awmlYhW9MzYLx5AlTCJh6G0gCKgB/s320/P1170992.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The bracelet was inspired by pure <em>Summertime.</em> I was looking at my vast assortment of beads and thinking about what would look good for the beach. A relaxed casual bracelet with lots of color. All of the big beads are actually vintage acrylic or vintage brass beads. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZybXDOyU6U/V21UottJZzI/AAAAAAAADgM/4__LAe05bxgE8LSUXH9ITm4HU2wZstx_gCLcB/s1600/P1180007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZybXDOyU6U/V21UottJZzI/AAAAAAAADgM/4__LAe05bxgE8LSUXH9ITm4HU2wZstx_gCLcB/s320/P1180007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The earrings were inspired by the 'Vintage Summer' theme that the magazine offered. The pink color is a Swavorski color - 'Cyclamen Opal' - that I'm not sure is even made anymore. I've had them for a few years. It is such a hard color to capture by camera. Pinkish purplish - kind of cloudy - almost looks like clouds at sunset. They are accented with a creamy white Czech glass flower and brass flower bead caps.</span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ever since the change of the homepage, I haven't touched the look of my shop. So now, instead of an old banner, it just has NO banner. Don't you think they could have incorporated the old banners somehow into these new designs? </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tnDvF0YLe7g/V0SYsoP8VII/AAAAAAAADeg/LOAo44W0U2gHTJ9yqAwgvkp6zmjPiw43gCLcB/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="42" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tnDvF0YLe7g/V0SYsoP8VII/AAAAAAAADeg/LOAo44W0U2gHTJ9yqAwgvkp6zmjPiw43gCLcB/s320/Slide1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is my rendition of a change to the banner. Still needs some work....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Well, I think the shop needed a lift anyhow and the look of this blog. So there will be some changes to the look of the blog to hopefully match the changes that will be made to my Etsy shop and to reflect my changing style. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I've been reading the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Marketing-Selling-Your-Handmade-Jewelry/dp/1596680245" target="_blank"><i>marketing and selling your handmade jewelry </i>by Viki Lareau</a>. It is very outdated - written in 2006 - but I like the questions that she poses regarding identifying your customer. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I feel like I have been making a lot of fun jewelry and trying lots of techniques but not narrowing on anything. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_8RPeIcgfdI/V0SZor9-BoI/AAAAAAAADeo/M6QcB9M2DgwDsWjtTmmWt0CBsno4VNNJACLcB/s1600/P1170661.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_8RPeIcgfdI/V0SZor9-BoI/AAAAAAAADeo/M6QcB9M2DgwDsWjtTmmWt0CBsno4VNNJACLcB/s320/P1170661.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">***Pattern from heliotrope earrings from an Interweave magazine. I love this combo and still need to complete the 2nd for a pair of earrings or I may turn it into a necklace...</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">How can I become really great at anything if I don't pursue it wholeheartedly? So my etsy shop will show some more cohesive looks but I hope that this blog will still maintain a bit of whimsy and eclectic choices in jewelry-making. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fv7swXE5hr4/V0SasHCKgSI/AAAAAAAADe4/ZitY3CmKJPoBoOF5MnhzDokLfTAowFwtwCLcB/s1600/P1170664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fv7swXE5hr4/V0SasHCKgSI/AAAAAAAADe4/ZitY3CmKJPoBoOF5MnhzDokLfTAowFwtwCLcB/s320/P1170664.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">***Also from the heliotrope pattern from an Interweave Beadwork magazine. This is the back and the front of a pair. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I've also been following and watching <a href="http://richmombusiness.com/about" target="_blank">Renae Christine</a>'s free videos. Honestly, she provides great information! I just watched her SEO Infusion video - so helpful! I learned about some websites and info that I hadn't known after being on etsy for 4 years (I will say that I have not done well, just keep chugging along) and reading some books about selling on etsy. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lGxpxy0N2xM/V0SbY_uDg9I/AAAAAAAADe8/Sz0cZGMFCzsHOCWNAcC-0_WGUFrhLG6dwCLcB/s1600/P1170662.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lGxpxy0N2xM/V0SbY_uDg9I/AAAAAAAADe8/Sz0cZGMFCzsHOCWNAcC-0_WGUFrhLG6dwCLcB/s320/P1170662.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">***My friend had a birthday recently and I played with different color combos for the CRAW wheels. The ones I ended up giving her had the same turquoise and greenish beads but a matte silver bead in the middle. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">In the meantime, I hope to still contribute to magazines. I like the challenges and themes - in fact, I have some items in the Summer 2016 jewelry Stringing magazine. As soon as I get them back in the mail, I'll post pics. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">As you can see, I love the beadweaving, just wish it didn't take quite so long to complete each piece!</span><br />

I gathered beads for this bracelet sometime last summer and put it in my drawer of projects to make and finally started it in March. The main part of the bracelet worked up fast, but, man, the embellishment seemed to just take a lot of time. Lots of weaving up through the base before starting the next group of embellishment. <br />
<br />
This bracelet design is called Whistle Stop Bracelet by Marcia L. Balonis from Beadwork magazine October/November 2014.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5ProXE7EuFE/Vx1BcRmjo6I/AAAAAAAADdM/CEmKkmNh-NEabdVM1GZO0MitpPzxQSWpACLcB/s1600/P1170616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5ProXE7EuFE/Vx1BcRmjo6I/AAAAAAAADdM/CEmKkmNh-NEabdVM1GZO0MitpPzxQSWpACLcB/s320/P1170616.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And at the very end I noticed that on the very first embellishment, for some reason, I had strung the top seed beads on the outside of the 2-hole lentil beads. Ugh! Well, this one is for me since it's a learning bracelet... and the error is not too noticeable.<br />
<br />
Here's the result:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zSrO5Ep5XbM/Vx1BuRnRrLI/AAAAAAAADdQ/jKAuSqU9ye0dXp1OubWqgg_5I4qP9oQswCLcB/s1600/P1170612.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zSrO5Ep5XbM/Vx1BuRnRrLI/AAAAAAAADdQ/jKAuSqU9ye0dXp1OubWqgg_5I4qP9oQswCLcB/s320/P1170612.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
What a difference great lighting makes. The picture above was taken in the shade with lots of ambient light. The ones below are in direct sunlight! In the ones below, you can really see the greenish/yellowish Picasso hues on the 2-hole squares. Really, this is not as apparent when just looking at the bracelet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s2Pwa4vb-Ds/Vx1CFpuJfsI/AAAAAAAADdU/N5tsxJWlJYQIkx279_wungRrG_g-Ul2OwCLcB/s1600/P1170606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s2Pwa4vb-Ds/Vx1CFpuJfsI/AAAAAAAADdU/N5tsxJWlJYQIkx279_wungRrG_g-Ul2OwCLcB/s320/P1170606.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h2VXyIqaVrc/Vx1DCkKN62I/AAAAAAAADdg/f3KSrJ608fEGPqrMpMkn17r0dRKR4FNgQCLcB/s1600/P1170608.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h2VXyIqaVrc/Vx1DCkKN62I/AAAAAAAADdg/f3KSrJ608fEGPqrMpMkn17r0dRKR4FNgQCLcB/s320/P1170608.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Overall, I really like the way the bracelet came together. It is built nice and solid with the extra reinforcements after the embellishment beads were added. I felt it was <u>very difficult</u> to choose colors! Maybe because of having to look at different sources for the different shaped beads and not being able to purchase all the beads from one source? Or maybe because there is a limited variety of these beads? Or maybe because I was as much as possible trying to work within the confines of what I already owned?<br />
<br />
I ended up using mostly beads that have speckled or mottled or Picasso finishes. The Czech glass beads are called 'mushroom' and are a matte muted lavender. The seed beads used on top of the lentils are a crystal lined clear through seed bead with a slight amethyst hint to them. The look of this bracelet could have really gone in a completely different direction with different colors!<br />

There is also an Open House on April 16th, from 11am-3pm at the Michael's store. I will be there showcasing some different jewelry techniques. I am still deciding on showing how to make either leather and bead wrap bracelets or a long tassel necklace with knotting. It should be fun!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12563448327864184210noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5867321190462787399.post-85377543645637778582016-04-07T17:44:00.001-04:002016-04-07T17:44:07.948-04:00Stringing, Spring 2016 This post is a long time coming - its been sitting in the draft folder for awhile. <br />
I got published in <strong>Jewelry</strong> <em><strong>Stringing</strong></em>, Spring 2016 issue! It is so fun to see my handmade items in a glossy magazine! <br />

A dainty, Spring inspired bracelet. This bracelet was inspired by the magazine's 'Secret Garden' theme. That flower focal is a real flower bud encased in resin in a sterling silver bezel. I actually obtained another one of these focals and can't wait to use it. So pretty! The clasp is also sterling silver with a small garnet in the center. The sides of the bracelet are accented of different Czech glass beads - the silver ones with a matte AB finish and the crimson ones with a gold sheen to them.<br />
<br />
The idea of wearing flowers is pretty awesome - a reminder of the Spring bounty of flowers (that will hopefully not shy away from this sudden cold weather in the Midwest!) .Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12563448327864184210noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5867321190462787399.post-56871965567257407682016-03-07T08:07:00.000-05:002016-03-07T08:07:20.448-05:00Teaching at Michaels<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Would you like to learn some jewelry techniques and are in the Cincinnati area?</span><br />

I've done right angle weave several times but here's the next step - cubic right angle weave. <br />
<br />
Marcia DeCoster had a tutorial for circle earrings in the October/November 2015 Beadwork magazine as a precursor and advertisement for her cubic right angle weave videos. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ax0tS6haKGg/VtDXSqlBz6I/AAAAAAAADa0/-rmxoJZKjnI/s1600/P1170441.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ax0tS6haKGg/VtDXSqlBz6I/AAAAAAAADa0/-rmxoJZKjnI/s320/P1170441.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Even my color choices feel inspired by Marcia DeCoster - I really like the metallic and bright colors paired together. Her jewelry is a style I definitely strive for (after I learn all these different bead weaving techniques!) <br />
<br />
Beyond the initial set-up stitches, I thought the tutorial in the magazine was a little vague but that may have been because it was an advertisement for her <a href="http://www.interweavestore.com/cubic-right-angle-weave-with-marcia-decoster-shapes">CRAW Shapes video</a>. Luckily, I also have the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Beadweaving-Beyond-Basics-Crystals-Two-hole/dp/1440242682">Beadweaving Beyond the Basics</a> book and it helped me figure out what I was doing. After the second unit of CRAW, I feel like the beads just fall into place. A very fun stitch and I can't wait to make more. On Pinterest, I keep seeing heart pendants that look like they are made with CRAW and Swavorski Crystals. I keep pinning them, so maybe that will be the next inspiration.<br />

<br />
I started this pendant last weekend but just got busy throughout the week. The inspiration photos this month are images of bobbin lace and the story behind making it. I find it interesting that no matter who we are or where we come from or what little or vast amounts of resources we have, we humans always seem to strive to want to and to actually make beautiful things. And sometimes, even with more limitations, the most creative items are made!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lqtyVxtYxf8/VtDPTXAuzXI/AAAAAAAADak/TuRbR_E5szQ/s1600/P1170436.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lqtyVxtYxf8/VtDPTXAuzXI/AAAAAAAADak/TuRbR_E5szQ/s320/P1170436.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The bobbin lace images made me think about how to create lace with my jewelry supplies. I created a framework with 16 gauge wire and my Thing-A-Ma Jig. I've had mine for several years and it is all plastic but have you seen the ones sold in stores now? They are all metal and look very sturdy!<br />
<br />
After making the framework, I decided on a pattern slightly reminiscent of one of the images in the <a href="http://www.halcraft.com/design/pretty-palettes-february-inspiration-3/">inspiration</a> post and used 24gauge silver Artistic wire to wrap the sides and for the middle. The seed beads are a pearly white color that go with the subtle cream colors of the bobbin lace. Is all bobbin lace white? Is that part of what makes it bobbin lace? <br />

Just a little pink accent with some Bead Gallery pink stone beads and a silver chain that has a tiny silver accent bead in between some of the links.<br />
